The Urbana Mural
A blank downtown wall, turned into a painted history of the town.
The brief
A wide, empty wall in the heart of Urbana, Ohio was a blank slate the whole town walked past. The goal was simple to say and hard to do. Fill it with the story of the place, so a wall people ignored becomes a wall people stop for.
Studio Roo built the piece as a collage of Urbana's history. Its aviation heritage, its downtown storefronts, its founding in 1805, and the everyday life of the community, all painted by hand across the full span of the wall. The result reads as one scene from the street and rewards a closer look up close.
